You can use the Fans tab to strategically organize fans into subgroups. This can be valuable for running campaigns that target specific segments of your fan base. Let's say you're on tour and your biggest show is in Texas. You may want to offer your rabid Texas fans a special "Texas Only T-shirt" offer. By grouping your Texas fans into a single tag, you're creating a built-in, segmented recipient list for mounting targeted campaigns.

In addition, when fans submit their email addresses via your Email for Media widgets, they are automatically geo-located after 24 hours, so any Texas fans that you haven't manually organized within a tag can still be targeted on the basis of location. When composing an email, just click "Smart Group" > "Region".
Filtering with Smart Groups
The Topspin Fans tab provides Smart Groups that can be used to automatically filter and organize your fans. These Smart Groups are All fans, New (Last 7 Days), New (Last 30 Days), Purchasers Of Offer, Membership Holders (if you've sold memberships in the past), Downloaders of Tag (if you've tagged any download widgets in your Promote section), Postal Code, Region, Country, Acquired By, and if available for any fans, Influencer Score, Interest, Gender, and Age. As an example of how these can be used, "Within Postal Code" allows you to enter a US postal code and search for fans within a certain radius of that postal code.
