What is Artists.MTV?

Artists.MTV is a new initiative that gives artists direct access to their MTV presence and empowers them to connect directly with MTV’s millions of fans. It starts with all-new artist pages that allow fans to discover new music, connect directly with artists, and then buy music, merch, tickets, and more. Musicians of all levels (not just famous ones) will be able to connect with an audience, get heard, promoted and paid. It’s open to every artist on the planet.

When will Artists.MTV be available?

Artists.MTV will launch in private beta mode beginning in June. If you’re already a Topspin customer, you don’t have to do anything. You’re in, and in before anyone else. All other artists can sign up at http://artists.mtv.com to get beta access. Pages will launch to the public in September, in conjunction with the VMAs.

What does it cost?

Nothing. It’s free!

Will I be able to sell Topspin products on my Artists.MTV page?

Yes. By the end of summer 2012, you’ll be able to sell your music and merchandise right from your MTV artist page. Sales through your MTV page will be subject to the same 15% fee as all other Topspin sales.

How do I get an Artists.MTV page?

At launch, Artists.MTV will have over a million “unclaimed” pre-populated artist pages. Artists can claim their pages in order to gain access to their page features. Similar to Twitter’s “Verified” accounts system, each Artists.MTV page is either “claimed” or “unclaimed”. If you’re an emerging artist without a claimed or unclaimed Artists.MTV page, you’ll be able to sign up for one right here. 

What else can I do with my Artists.MTV page?

Artists.MTV will provide artists all the tools they need to host videos, photos, audio, and other digital content. You’ll be able to acquire new fans right on your Artists.MTV page, and by the end of summer 2012, you’ll be able to sell your music and merchandise right from your page using Topspin. Sales through Artists.MTV pages will be subject to the same 15% fee as all other Topspin sales. Artists.MTV will make music discovery easy for fans and offer established and emerging artists an online home where they can influence their presence across MTV’s screens (web, mobile, TV), control their image, and opt into a myriad of opportunities provided by MTV and its partners to generate exposure and revenue. Artists.MTV will give fans access to millions of artists - past, present, and future - while simultaneously allowing artists to share music, interviews, reviews, performances, tour dates, videos, related artists, artist faves, and anything else they choose, including a “Tip Jar” that will allow fans to literally “tip” their favorite artists. 100% of the Tip Jar will go directly to the artist.

What is “Full Frontal”?

Even in a digital world, internet famous is still nothing like TV famous. With this in mind, Artists.MTV will be introducing a working concept called “Full Frontal”. Each month, one artist will be featured across MTV-affiliated channels by way of video premieres and rotation, news pieces, interviews, appearances on shows like 120 Minutes and Weird Vibes, live performances, song integrations into MTV shows and more. Fan votes will narrow down the field of potential featured artists, and a revolving panel of artists, industry executives and producers will select the featured “Full Frontal” artist of the month.
